Urban development goals
The framework plan develops an area characterised by sport and culture for the centre of Radebeul. This takes up and further develops existing local approaches. Other, historically determined pharmaceutical and commercial settlements will not be pursued further, and brownfield sites and vacant buildings will be utilised for the new objectives. The laboratory building last used by Meda Pharma will be converted into the House of Culture and History with a municipal archive, municipal art collection and municipal history collection. Geographically located between the two densely built-up historic town centres of Radebeul, the centre is to remain a district characterised by greenery and become even more so. Although the plan also envisages new buildings and additional sports facilities with land sealing, overall the green spaces will be upgraded, supplemented by large green areas and compensation areas and designed for an attractive stay. The aim is not only to meet the urgent need for club sports with new sports facilities, but also to create public green spaces for sporting and recreational activities for all city residents. The green spaces on the Moritz-Garte-Steg will be better connected to the Lößnitzgymnasium.
A new link between east and west
The plan area extends between Meißner Straße and the railway embankment at varying depths. A newly created footpath and cycle path linking Bernhard-Voß-Straße in the west and Steinbachstraße in the east forms the backbone of this composite space, which can now be experienced as a single entity for the first time. While the new path closes a gap in the planned priority cycle route between east and west from a city-wide perspective, for which it must be safely routed via Weintraubenstraße, it opens up the local sporting and cultural facilities near the railway and connects them with local public transport and with each other. The high frequency of the thoroughfare turns the area into a public space. Stationary traffic is bundled in a few places in order to realise a space-saving arrangement, free up expansion areas and avoid search traffic. Richard-Wagner-Straße will be closed to through traffic at Krokofit and turned around in the new car park. This will allow a new town square to be created in front of the Radebeul-Weintraube S-Bahn stop as an entrance to the centre of Radebeul. The entrance to the youth hostel will also be located here in future.
