Salvador Allende Memorial
Dear residents of Radebeul,
In September, 53 years ago, the democratically elected government in Chile was overthrown by a military coup.
On 11 September 1973, the Chilean Air Force bombed the presidential palace. After the military stormed the palace, President Salvador Allende took his own life.
We wish to honour the victims of the military coup, the well over 3,000 political murders and the more than 40,000 political prisoners (source: Federal Agency for Civic Education)
at the stele dedicated to Salvador Allende on Hörnigplatz, on Saturday 12 September 2026 at 11.00 am
