The album “Bouncin’ In Bubbleverse” by Matti Klein: Soul Trio playfully explores the concept of the filter bubble. Rather than shutting themselves away in their own bubble, the three musicians juggle different musical worlds – from jazz, funk, hip-hop and space rock – and delight in bursting them.

The trio consists of Matti Klein (Wurlitzer electric piano), Lars Dieterich (saxophone and bass clarinet) and André Seidel (drums). Their sound emerges from the combination of Klein’s warm vintage keyboard tones, the rare 1973 Rhodes Bass and Dieterich’s effects-laden playing, underpinned by Seidel’s flexible rhythms. The British magazine Jazzwise described this as “a new, sizzling variation on the popular organ trio format”.

Bandleader Klein, a well-travelled vintage keyboard master who has performed on the world’s most important jazz stages alongside the likes of Mo’ Blow and Ed Motta, explains the album title as reflecting the constant shifts between different musical “bubbles” – from major festivals to small jazz clubs. The Soul Trio itself has performed over 300 concerts worldwide.
