Dear visitors, dear guests from near and far, dear participants,
dear partners and supporters,

when the first campfires blaze in the Lößnitzgrund, horses gallop through the dust
and music rings out from all directions, then it’s time for adventure once again!

From 7 to 9 May 2027, the Karl May Festival in Radebeul invites you on a journey that could scarcely be more unusual: “Beavers, Bilz & Bedouins”.

For Radebeul has more to offer than just Winnetou, Old Shatterhand and the Wild West. Amidst the green banks of the Lößnitzgrund, the stories of the famous writer Karl May and the legacy of the naturopath Friedrich Eduard Bilz, three worlds converge: , nature, homeland and the Orient.

The beaver symbolises the wild nature that is reclaiming its space. It is a master builder, a landscape architect and a quiet inhabitant of our rivers and floodplains. Wherever the beaver is at work, new habitats emerge – and perhaps its trail even leads right into the heart of an adventure.

Bilz, in turn, takes us back to Radebeul and to the period around 1900. The naturopath and health reformer Friedrich Eduard Bilz left his mark on the Lößnitz region just as much as Karl May did, and his ideas brought Radebeul to prominence far beyond Saxony.

And then there are the Bedouins: they open the gateway to that Oriental world through which Karl May’s Kara Ben Nemsi and Hadschi Halef Omar travelled. From the deserts of North Africa and the Orient, the journey leads back to the Lößnitz Valley – where, in 2027, stories will once again be told, adventures lived out and the boundaries between reality and fantasy dissolved.

‘Beavers, Bilz & Bedouins’ – this is a theme straddling natural history and adventure fiction, Radebeul’s history and Karl May’s fantasy worlds. It invites you to rediscover the familiar and to embrace unusual encounters.
