Culvert in Augustusweg successfully repaired - construction work completed on schedule

22.08.2025

  • Augustusweg culvert

After around 3.5 months of construction, the repair work on the culvert in Augustusweg was successfully completed. The measure was officially accepted on 18 August 2025. With the exception of a few remaining services, the project was completed on time and according to the construction schedule.

The culvert, which was in need of renovation, was fundamentally upgraded as part of the project. This included

  • clearing the construction site, including clearing work
  • the construction of a construction road in the north and set-up areas in the south to access the lower-lying site
  • the extensive clearing of deposits in the culvert
  • Installation of a new pipe base and GRP profile pipes in sections 2 and 3
  • Grouting of the annular space after wall closure at both ends and installation of bed stabilisation in the stream bed
  • the complete dismantling of the upstream wing walls and reconstruction as concrete-backed natural stone masonry
  • the replacement construction of the masonry end wall downstream as a closure around the inserted pipe
  • the installation of railings as fall protection at both ends

In addition, the unfiltered road drainage was removed from the culvert and professionally connected to the existing sewer. The flushing pipe from the elevated drinking water tank on the city boundary was adapted to the new culvert geometry.

Environmental and species protection aspects were also taken into account:

In the first section of the culvert, the natural stone masonry was largely preserved. The existing gaps and crevices remain as a habitat for bats. In addition, new bat roosts were installed in the lower section of the culvert and in the northern wing walls.

In addition to the structural repairs, existing kerbs in the construction area were straightened and the footpaths were repaired locally with a sand-slurry gravel surface. Replacement planting will be carried out in a favourable vegetation period.

With the completed repair of the culvert in Augustusweg, we are not only ensuring the long-term functionality of the structure, but also taking nature and species conservation into account. We would like to thank everyone involved for the timely realisation.
