3rd Reading Spring in the Radebeul City Library
26.04.2022
For many years, kindergarten groups and school classes have been coming to the library to discover the world of books. Reading and the reading skills acquired with it are important for the development of one's own knowledge and personality. According to a survey by the Bertelsmann Foundation, the intensity of reading decreases continuously with age, with the first so-called "reading slump" occurring between the ages of 8 and 10.
The aim of reading promotion is therefore to encourage children and young people to read with targeted measures. The focus should be on increasing the joy of reading.
For the third time, the city library is therefore heralding the "Reading Spring" in Radebeul.
This reading promotion project was first conceived in 2016 by the Heidenau City Library, which was extremely successful in the test phase with 200 children.
The Radebeul library also took part in this project in 2018 and 2020 and was able to inspire 440 children to read.
For the event itself, pupils in years 1 to 4 are invited to read the new and interesting books from the library, which are labelled with the Spring Reading sticker. The title of the book is noted on a special reading card. The library staff use short control questions to test whether the title has actually been read. The children are also welcome to draw pictures of the books or design a book cover; the best pictures are awarded prizes and displayed in an exhibition. A stamp is placed on the reading card for each book successfully read. The aim is for each participating child to read 2 books in the planned period of 8 weeks.
In the run-up to the project, the library staff actively approached all primary schools in Radebeul to get teachers and many of their pupils involved in the "Reading Spring". The city library staff are looking forward to a lively participation.
All successful participants will receive an invitation to the closing event, where fun, prizes and certificates will of course be on offer.
The aim of this campaign, which is based on existing concepts such as Book Summer, is to make reading fun. The aim is to promote reading and language skills and to strengthen the perception of the library as an educational and cultural centre.
Let your thoughts blossom like spring again - we look forward to welcoming you to the Radebeul City Library.
