More space in the trains on Ascension Day

11.05.2021

  • Himmelfahrt S-Bahn in Königstein

On the Ascension Day public holiday, additional trains will be running in the direction of Saxon Switzerland and on the Müglitz Valley Railway. "We want to get day trippers to their destinations with enough space on the trains," explains Lutz Auerbach, Head of the Transport Department at Verkehrsverbund Oberelbe (VVO). "In addition to the extra trains, the regular S-Bahn trains therefore run with a fifth carriage". The transport association, S-Bahn Dresden and Mitteldeutsche Regiobahn are thus responding to the expected increase in demand.

The additional trains to Saxon Switzerland will run between Dresden Central Station and Schöna and stop at all stations. One train will depart from Dresden Central Station at 9.50 a.m. and the second will set off up the Elbe at 10.18 a.m.. There will also be additional S-Bahn trains for excursionists travelling back to Dresden. One train leaves Schöna at 16.22, the other starts at 16.42 in the direction of the state capital. "These additional trains are an alternative, especially for Dresdeners who want to take their bikes with them," explains Lutz Auerbach.

The WanderExpress travels between Dresden and the Osterzgebirge. Passengers can travel from the centre of the state capital to Geising and Altenberg in 66 minutes. The outward journey starts at 10.05 a.m. at the main station, the return journey at 5.18 p.m. in Altenberg.

Information on the timetable and fares as well as the current regulations due to the coronavirus pandemic is available from all transport companies in the VVO, at www.vvo-online.de and on the information hotline on 0351 8526555.
