Route Niederlößnitz

On the way through Niederlößnitz, you will be offered a dreamlike view over the Elbe valley and the vineyards of Radebeul. On the ascent right next to the show vineyard of the Hoflößnitz winery below Friedensburg Castle, display boards tell you interesting facts about winegrowing in Saxony. A special feature of the route is the historic water gallery on Burgstraße. The Frog King sits on a wall in the immediate vicinity and watches those passing by. The ruler of this subterranean kingdom is said to still live in the gallery today, waiting for redemption. With a bit of luck, you may be able to spot him with a glance down the underground passage.

The path takes you past wine houses and Straußenwirtschaften (wine taverns), which invite you to take a pleasurable break with a glass of wine after the steep ascent. Along the Obere Bergstraße are picturesque historic houses, such as the Minckwitzsche Weinberghaus. The descent runs next to the Minckwitz vineyard past the Finstere Gasse.

The path variants offer further beautiful views and lead past smaller vineyard sites such as the Paradies and the Terrassenberg. " Am Wasserturm", the path winds through an enchanted woodland lined with vineyard walls.

Tip:

Only a few metres from the Förster winery is the water tower. It was built in 1916/17 by French prisoners of war, which gave it the name "French Tower". Opposite the water tower is the "König-Friedrich-August-Höhe", a vantage point offering a fantastic view of the Elbe valley.
