A terrorist hijacks a passenger plane with 164 people on board and heads for a packed football stadium. In order to save tens of thousands of lives, an air force fighter pilot shoots down the plane. He is charged with murder. The audience at the theatre performance has to judge his guilt. Does the law apply without restriction or are there exceptional situations that require a breach of the law?
In view of today's threats in a fragile world order, the questions raised by von Schirach's play from 2015 take on a new relevance. How far may the state interfere with the rights of its citizens in order to avert danger? Does the legal situation enable the state to act in the event of a crisis? The theatre becomes a space for discussion and coordination.
