Opera boogie
A Georg Kreisler evening by Kai Anne Schuhmacher
Georg Kreisler - composer, writer, pianist, chansonnier and cabaret artist - became famous above all for his songs such as the »Opera Boogie« that gives the programme its title.
When an artist and a music critic meet on this entertaining evening, it is of course about music and theatre, the meaningfulness of artistic activity in general and thus soon about the whole »theatre of life«, to which the guy at the bar also has a lot to contribute.
In addition to »Opera Boogie«, »The Music Critic« and »Wandering Kidney«, there are other absurdly profound and blackly humorous songs based on Kreisler's successful recipe of singing with macabre words to cheerful music against the impending seriousness of the times.
