3rd chamber concert
In the footsteps of Telemann, Couperin & Marais. Marie Ludewig - transverse flute, Daria Spiridonova - baroque violin, Georg Zeike - viola da gamba, Michaela Hasselt - harpsichord
Our journey through time into the world of French Baroque music of the 17th and 18th centuries begins in Paris, where Georg Philipp Telemann arrived in 1737 at the invitation of famous fellow musicians. In his luggage he had, among other things, the »Quadri«, published as early as 1730 and known today as part of his Paris Quartets.
In general, this period was overshadowed by the fear of the French that the Italian »gusto« could gain supremacy over the French »goût«. With his famous collection »Les Nations« (Paris 1726), François Couperin, who admired Corelli as much as Lully, dared to attempt a »réunion des deux goûts«. He succeeded masterfully in merging the supposed opposites into a unity, as the sonata »La Françoise«, excerpted here, proves.
Now to the courtly art song of the time, the »Air de cour«, which enjoyed great popularity among the French nobility in the late Renaissance and Baroque periods. Listen to two versions of the famous »Pourquoy doux rossignol« by Jean-Baptiste de Bousset and Michel Blavet. At the court of Versailles, we then get to know the violin virtuoso Louis-Gabriel Guillemain en passant with one of his elegant works for this instrument. And finally, what would a trip to France be without the most famous gambist of all - Marin Marais. His compositions are among the highlights of the literature for the viola da gamba and bear witness to the beauty and splendour of the (chamber) music of the French High Baroque.
The concert at the Hoflößnitz with transverse flute, baroque violin, viola da gamba and harpsichord offers the opportunity to experience some of the masterpieces of this period on historically authentic instruments in their full original splendour. Let yourself be enchanted by the music of bygone times and enjoy a late afternoon full of elegance and sophistication!
