Path of Lights 2026 – Dorothee Kuhbandner

Designed by the artist from Radebeul

As dusk falls in Radebeul-Altkötzschenbroda and the ‘Lichterglanz und Budenzauber’ Christmas market glows in warm light, a special light trail invites visitors to explore. It was designed by Radebeul-based artist Dorothee Kuhbandner, who has been enriching the town’s festivities with her work for many years.

A total of ten "Christmas surprise bags" featuring sayings and colourful, partly Christmassy motifs adorn the path. Among them is a Radebeul motif featuring the ghost of Mr von Minckwitz. The motifs are also compiled in a small booklet published by Notschriftenverlag, thereby establishing a further link to Radebeul’s cultural landscape. Kuhbandner collaborated with Richard Altus on the project.

The Path of Lights is more than just a Christmas decoration: light, colours and shapes come together to form a walk-through work of art that can be experienced anew with every step. The lanterns invite visitors to pause, take a closer look and perceive the familiar village green in a new, luminous light.

Kuhbandner’s works are characterised by a colourful, dynamic and yet lyrical visual language. Her aim is to create an emotional and inspiring atmosphere. In this way, the Christmas market in Altkötzschenbroda becomes a place to linger and discover, revealing its particularly atmospheric side in winter.

– The Instagram hotspot at the end of the Path of Lights

At the end of the light trail, the glowing nativity scene beckons – a special Instagram spot for all social media enthusiasts. Here, the traditional Christmas story meets modern light art.

A must-have for your story: this romantic depiction of the Christmas story through light sculptures is the creation of the Chilean artist couple Muriel Cornejo and César Olhagaray. With loving attention to detail, they breathe radiant life into the Holy Family, the shepherds, the Three Wise Men and the Star of Bethlehem. Every light effect conveys a new nuance: the gentle rustling of the wind, the figures’ friendly smiles, the warm glow of hope.

Perfectly staged for the perfect shot: the lighting is tailor-made for your smartphone – whether it’s a selfie in front of the Star of Bethlehem, a panorama featuring the Holy Family or a short Reel with a gentle colour shift. Every post here is sure to turn heads. The nativity scene is a place of wonder that invites you to linger, take photos and share them.

Radebeul – a town to savour: where else does the magic of Christmas blend so harmoniously with a zest for life? The nativity scene blends seamlessly into the special atmosphere of this town – a place where life is celebrated and the beautiful moments are consciously savoured. Enjoy the sight, enjoy the moment, enjoy Radebeul.

And when the last glimmer has faded, the memory of a shared radiance will remain, continuing to shine in our hearts for a long time to come.
