The Punch and Judy and the GDR

Anyone who grew up in the GDR was of course familiar with Punch and Judy, whether as a children's toy or in the famous children's book and animated film "Alarm in the Punch and Judy Show". However, few people realise that professional puppeteers had a hard time with their Punch and Judy. Initially, Punch was allowed to chase coloured metal thieves and fight potato bugs, but in the 1950s and 1960s he was accused of lacking class consciousness. The renaissance came all the more surprisingly and ultimately led to the first Radebeul Punch and Judy show.
