Indian and Western Club "Old Manitou" 1956 e.V.

Based in Radebeul-Lindenau

The Indian and Western Club "Old Manitou" was founded in 1956 and is celebrating its 70th anniversary this year. The club sees itself as the successor to the "1st Dresden Indian and Cowboy Club Manitou 1931" and is therefore one of the oldest Native American clubs in Germany and the oldest in the new federal states.

The club is concerned with cultural and ethnological work on the subject of North America, mainly in the period from the 18th to the 19th century, in particular with the culture and customs of the North American Indians.

The members of the club work with their families internally and publicly and present the history in historical and authentic clothing in the club and at events.
In addition to the constant acquisition of specialised knowledge, the club's work also includes the elaborate production of replicas of the relevant period.

As an association, we are a member of the Karl May Museum Association.

Our members have also been actively involved in the Karl May Festival for many years. You can see us
at the shows in Fort Henry, in the star rider camp, in the railway camp of the military-historical performers' association, in Little Tombstone or at the parade on Sunday in historical outfits. Here we respectfully portray emigrants, settlers, rebels and soldiers of the American War of Independence, Zouaves our Stetson City militia, a special military unit, Civil War soldiers, trappers, lawmen, bounty hunters, bandits and, last but not least, Native Americans of various tribes and eras.

Guests and interested parties are also welcome to visit us at weekends on our club grounds "Stetson City" at Auerweg 1h, in Radebeul.
