School transport

School transport in the Free State of Saxony is regulated by the Saxon School Act. The districts and independent towns in whose area the school is located are responsible. The district of Meißen is therefore responsible for schools in Radebeul. The district regulates the details of school transport in a statute and processes applications for school transport.

Frequently asked questions:

When do parents receive notification of admission to a primary school?

The date for the announcement is set by the State Office for Schools and Education. In recent years, parents have received mail from the receiving school at the beginning of June, i.e. approximately two months before enrolment.

Which primary school do I have to enrol my child in?

Children who reach the age of six by 30 June of the following calendar year must be registered by their legal guardians at a primary school in their school district. The child's main place of residence is decisive. Radebeul has two school districts: Radebeul EAST and Radebeul WEST. Children from the Wahnsdorf district who are required to attend school must be enrolled at Reichenberg primary school. Please refer to the overview map on our website for your school district. If you register your child at an independent school, you are obliged to inform a public primary school in your school district in writing (with the name of the independent school) by 15 September of the year preceding school enrolment for statistical purposes. In this case, separate registration is not required.

Are there also school districts for secondary schools?

No, you can enrol your child at a secondary school of your choice, depending on the educational programme. School enrolment for the fifth grade usually takes place in February before the start of the new school year. The exact dates / enrolment modalities can be found either in the official gazette at the beginning of February or on the website of the chosen school. Whether enrolment is possible depends on the capacity of the respective school.
