Genealogy, family trees, family relationships - family history research and genealogical research on the Internet

The Radebeul town archive is currently working on the digitisation of documents from the former registry offices in Lößnitz. The so-called civil status records were created with the establishment of the registry offices in 1876 and contain all of a person's elementary data. They therefore form the basic documentation for genealogical information in individual cases as well as entire family contexts and thus also in a societal dimension.

What is the particular value of these sources?

The civil status records are the starting point for family researchers and questions about genealogical relationships, as they contain a lot of information and findings that are necessary to determine previous generations. They also provide valuable information for further research, such as other places, people or family members with whom the person being searched was connected.

The civil status records also provide meaningful clues for researching local and regional history, for example for topics in historical demographic and migration research as well as for social and medical history. In addition, conclusions can be drawn about marriage behaviour and the origin of the spouses. Last but not least, this source makes it possible to clearly trace the development of a community into a town or large city.

Below you can find detailed information on the broad field of family research or browse through the name indexes of the civil status records to your heart's content.

Please note that the documents of the city archive are not barrier-free as historical records.

You can find out more about the background to family research in the official gazettes July 2016, August 2016, September 2016 and April 2017.

Research name directories and discover family research!

Researching genealogical connections touches on life circumstances, social status or the family's relationship structure - who knows what you might stumble across, including surprising findings and uncovered secrets. But at first glance, the broad field of genealogy is as confusing as some intergenerational family relationships. To help you shed light on your own ancestral line and get to know your ancestors, the town archive presents you with a valuable tool: the online provision of name directories in the form of scanned original books with lists of personal names, residential addresses and corresponding document numbers - starting with the year 1876, i.e. you can expect Old German and New German handwriting, later written by typewriter.

The separation of church and state led to the nationwide establishment of registry offices on 1 January 1876. While today the registry office in the Alte Post is responsible for the whole of Radebeul, for a certain period in the history of Lößnitz there were once 4 different registry office districts, including for Kötzschenbroda, Wahnsdorf and Naundorf. Accordingly, the name directories are sorted into these 4 categories of independently run registry offices.

Naundorf registry office (1906-1923)

From 1 May 1906 to 12 November 1923, the Naundorf registry office district was run by an independent registry office, which was located at what was then Schulstraße 39 (now Bertheltstraße 16).

In addition to Naundorf, it was also responsible for the municipality of Zitzschewig.

This independence was then dissolved and both Naundorf and Zitzschewig became part of the Kötzschenbroda registry office district. For marriages and deaths in Naundorf/Zitzschewig before May 1906 and from 12 November 1923, please search the name indexes of the Kötzschenbroda registry office.

Wahnsdorf registry office (1931-1934)

From 01.01.1876 to 30.06.1931, the municipality of Wahnsdorf was part of the Reichenberg registry office. The independent Wahnsdorf registry office then existed from 01.07.1931 to 31.03.1934 at Graue-Presse-Weg 5, after which it became part of the Radebeul registry office district.

Registry office Kötzschenbroda (1876-1934 and 1935-1936 as registry office Radebeul II)

The Kötzschenbroda/Radbeul II registry office carried out the registration of births, marriages and deaths in the former Niederlößnitz town hall (Rosa-Luxemburg-Platz 1) without interruption from 1 January 1876 to 31 December 1936.

However, it briefly changed its name: from 01.01.1935 to 31.12.1936 it was called the Radebeul II registry office.

It was responsible for the municipalities of:

  • Kötzschenbroda,
  • Lindenau,
  • Niederlößnitz,
  • Naundorf and Zitzschewig since autumn 1923 (see above: Naundorf registry office).

After the merger of the two towns of Kötzschenbroda and Radebeul in 1935 to form Radebeul in its current form, the two registry office districts also merged to form the entire Radebeul registry office district on 1 January 1937.
