I very much regret this, as I know how important the Christmas market is for our winegrowers, artists and traders, but also for everyone's Advent spirit," Wendsche continued.

With the cancellation of the Christmas market as a "special occasion" within the meaning of Section 8 of the Saxon Shop Opening Act, the Sunday open for business planned for the 3rd Advent cannot be held either.
The legal situation stipulates that a special occasion must be formative in order to attract visitors. It even requires forecasts to be made as to how many visitors the event will attract and emphasises that the economic interests of retailers should not be the basis for the decision to hold an open Sunday. This should only be an "add-on". This is contrary to the current situation, in which gatherings should be avoided as far as possible for reasons of infection control.

"The situation is certainly stressful for all of us, but there can be no other interpretation or decision here," emphasised the Lord Mayor. "Nevertheless, I wish
