Route Zitzschewig

On the route through Zitzschewig, the steep climb to Wettinhöhe is rewarded with a picturesque view over Dresden and Radebeul. Along an impressive, old oak avenue, you will reach Liebesinsel on Krapenbergweg. From there it is worth taking a short detour to the two lookout points on the Zechstein. Experience stations on the dry grassland and the Talut plant, an artfully designed serpentine and binoculars with a direct view into the vineyard bring the vineyard landscape to life. Particularly during the blossoming season in spring, the dry grassland demonstrates its colourfulness and attractiveness.

On the descent via the Langenbergweg, follow the traces of the historical water supply. On the educational wine trail on the Zechsteinweg, the different grape varieties and their characteristic features are explained to you in more detail. Display boards describe in detail the course of the year and the individual work steps in the vineyard. On Barkengasse you will find the Hohenhaus, a former episcopal vineyard estate that later passed into aristocratic and private ownership and to which Gerhart Hauptmann dedicated a literary monument in various works.

Tip: Visit the St. John's Chapel. The small church with its idyllic exterior is popular for wedding ceremonies.
