Hike through the Niederlößnitz

The starting point of your walk is the Theatre Landesbühnen Sachsen, located at the stop of tram line 4 "Landesbühnen Sachsen".
Walk up Schuchstraße and turn left at the next crossroads into Paradiesstraße. Follow this street past smaller and larger estates, some of which welcome you with Mediterranean charm.

At the end of Paradiesstraße you cross Lößnitzgrundstraße. On the right-hand side you will see the Grundhof, an old vineyard. The main building with the large hipped roof was built in the 2nd half of the 17th century. In 1801, a garden hall with a ridge turret and two pavilions were added. The garden hall became a studio for painters such as Wilhelm Claus, Karl Kröner and today Gunter Herrmann.

Continue along the narrowing Paradiesstraße and turn right at the end, following the curve of the road to the left. After about 100 m, turn left onto the hiking trail "Auf den Bergen".

On your right you will see the "Paradies" vineyard, which is cultivated by the Schloss Wackerbarth state winery. Following the path uphill, you will have many charming views and vistas before you reach the hill. Halfway up, you can take a break at the "Paradiesberg" wine tavern and fortify yourself with Saxon wine and a snack. Once at the top, turn left and follow the Höhenweg, cross Obere Burgstraße and continue your way along the high vineyard walls towards the water tower.

The water tower was built according to plans by the architects Richard Müller and Richard Schleinitz and since then has been a prominent feature of the silhouette of the Lößnitz hills, visible from afar. French prisoners of war were also involved in its construction in 1916/17, which is how the name "French Tower" came about.

On the left side of the viewpoint you can see the Friedensburg, which was originally built in the 17th century as a vineyard house. The Ziller brothers converted it into a restaurant in 1869. Through various structural changes, the Friedensburg took on the character of a hilltop castle and is a dominant building in the town of Lößnitz. Today the estate is used privately.

Now you can continue your way downhill along the easily accessible hiking trail and reach the forest park. In the northern part of the park is the "Schwarzes Teich" (Black Pond), where an annual Whitsun singing festival of the Radebeul choirs takes place.

Via a staircase in the south-western part you reach Moritzburger Straße, on which you return to Meißner Straße.

The path leads you past the Mohrenhaus, a former 19th century manor house with a three-hectare park, which is now run as an open children's and youth centre by the Deutscher Kinderschutzbund. The house was extensively renovated in 2007. A visit to the park is especially worthwhile for our little walkers.

Continuing downhill along Moritzburger Straße, you come to the former Bussard champagne factory. It was founded in 1836 as a "factory for sparkling wines", from 1897 it operated as the "Sektkellerei Bussard" (sparkling wine production using the "Rüttelverfahren").

The walk ends on Meißner Straße at the stops of tram line 4 with connections to Dresden or Weinböhla or at Radebeul-Kötzschenbroda station with connections to the railway S1 to Dresden or Meißen.
