Hike through the Lößnitzgrund

Starting at the stop of the narrow-gauge railway "Weißen Roß" or the stop of the tramway line 4 "Landesbühnen Sachsen", walking along Augustusweg for a short distance, you turn left onto Mühlweg. It leads past the Lößnitztalschänke to the junction of Weinbergstraße / Lößnitzgrundstraße. From here you have an excellent view of the Radebeul vineyards with their typical vineyard terraces and steep slopes. In the foreground is the Hoflößnitz Winery Museum foundation.
The Hoflößnitz today comprises buildings from different periods of origin, the Press House, the Pleasure and Mountain House, the Winegrowers' House and the Cavaliers' House, which you should definitely visit as part of a guided tour of the museum. The museum and wine shop sells wines from the Hoflößnitz winery and other producers in the Elbe Valley.
On the edge of the slope you can see the Spitzhaus and the Bismarck Tower. The Spitzhaus was built in the first half of the 17th century. It got its name from the tower-like spire. In 1710, the Spitzhaus came into the possession of the Wettin dynasty and was united with Hoflößnitz Castle, which was subsequently converted into a pleasure palace. The two houses were connected by the Spitzhaus staircase, which was built during the reign of Augustus the Strong. Daniel Pöppelmann designed the staircase, which was not built until after the king's death in the period from 1747 to 1750. The staircase is popularly known as the "annual staircase" because of the number of steps.

Follow the short stretch of woodland down into the valley and then cross the Lößnitzgrundstraße, the track of the narrow-gauge railway, and thus reach the hiking trail through the Lößnitzgrund, which is accompanied on the right by the parallel-flowing Lößnitzbach stream.

On the right you will see the houses built in the Swiss style, which today house the Bilz Pension. Here you can fast, eat healthily and relax according to the rules of the well-known naturopath Friedrich Eduard Bilz. After crossing the Meiereiweg, the path continues to the first bridge over the Lößnitzbach stream. Along the small railway tracks and then left over the bridge you reach the Thirteen Bridges Trail, which was signposted as the "Lößnitzgrund" nature trail by pupils of the Luisenstift grammar school with information on flora and fauna.

On the right-hand side, along the Lößnitzgrund road, you will see the Scheffler Mill, which still functions as a mill for animal feed.

At the end of the Dreizehn-Brücken-Weg, turn left into the Ginsterweg. Walk along this path for a short distance and via Sonnenleite and Friedewaldweg you reach Meiereiweg, which leads past the Bilzbad. The bath has a wave pool that is operated by the oldest, still functioning Undosa wave machine. On the Meiereiweg downhill, you will reach the Schluchtenweg on the right, which meanders idyllically through the Lößnitzgrund.

Once you reach the top of the hill, keep left, cross Jägerhofstraße and you are on Jägerstraße. At the end of Jägerstraße, keep to the far left and cross a small stone gate (marked with a red dot). Here begins a narrow forest path that leads to the hiking trail "Auf den Bergen".

Downhill, the forest path forks again, please turn left into the path and follow it downhill. After a few metres you have reached the vineyard called "Paradies" on the left. This vineyard is cultivated by the state winery Schloss Wackerbarth.

At the end of the path you cross Dr.-Rudolf-Friedrichs-Straße and reach Paradiesstraße. On Paradiesstraße 56/58 you will find the Grundhof, an old winery that is now home to the Youth Art School. The main building with the large hipped roof was built in the 2nd half of the 17th century. In 1801, a garden hall with a ridge turret and two pavilions were added. The garden hall became a studio for painters such as Wilhelm Claus, Karl Kröner and today Gunter Herrmann.

Continue along Paradiesstraße and turn left into the street "An der Jägermühle" and follow it downhill. You cross the rails of the narrow-gauge railway on the left, then turn right and continue to follow the first road on the right.

You are now on the Mühlweg and at the end of the path you will return to the starting point of your hike. Here you can use the stop of tram line 4 in the direction of Dresden or Weinböhla.
