Church "Friedenskirche"

  • Friedenskirche Radebeul Kötzschenbroda

The road through the historic village centre of Kötzschenbroda has been called Altkötzschenbroda since 1935.

In the 17th century, the village green was still divided - by a community-owned slaughterhouse standing across it, which also had baking, tavern and hostelry rights.

The smaller eastern part in front of the Friedenskirche was called the market.

And indeed, the weekly markets of Kötzschenbroda were held here.

The larger, western part has been called Hauptstraße since the middle of the 19th century.

The layout of the village square corresponds almost ideally to that of a Franconian roadside village with narrow, deep courtyards. Most of the preserved farmhouses and move-out houses date from the 19th century.

Besides the church and the vicarage, the most prominent buildings are the Oberschänke and the Hotel Goldener Anker with the steel fountain sculpture "Gegen den Strom" by Karl Menzen, erected in 1999.

Since its redesign in 1990, the Dorfanger has become a popular promenade with numerous pubs, cafés, galleries and smart boutiques. The proximity to the Elbe cycle path, but also the annual autumn and wine festivals and the Radebeul Christmas market have made Altkötzschenbroda one of the most important tourist attractions in the city.
