Saxony's largest traveling theater performs about 650 shows of a comprehensive and varied program each season at its home in Radebeul, on the many stages around Saxony, in the outdoor setting at Rathen and at the Zwinger Palace in Dresden.
The Mehrspartentheater (a facility suited for plays, operas, ballets and operettas), built in 1945 was completely refurbished in 2001 and today it stages well-known operas and operettas.
The ballet director Reiner Feistel and his ensemble contribute to the State Theater's ambitious program with their magical dance and ballet performances on the Grand Stage, and their famous dance evenings on the studio stage.
Musical director Michele Carulli and his orchestra put together an interesting and exciting program of concerts in the Radebeul theater, at Schloss Wackerbarth and at the Zwinger Palace in Dresden.
The acting ensemble offers classical and contemporary pieces which appeal to all age groups, and which are always spectacularly staged.
At the outdoor theater in Rathen the Saxon State Theater has long devoted itself to Karl May, the most famous resident of Radebeul. Following the success of "Winnetou I", "The Treasure of Silver Lake" was a new production by Olaf Hörbe in 2007. Of course, Rathen also stages productions such as the legendary "Freischütz" by Carl Maria von Weber, "Hansel and Gretel" and Shakespeare's "Romeo and Juliet."
Visitors to the region can experience all that the world of theater has to offer for both children and adults here in Radebeul, as well as at numerous other theaters throughout Saxony, at the outdoor theater in Rathen and at the Zwinger Palace in Dresden, all performed by the Landesbühnen Sachsen.
